SHIT HITS THE FAN

"Breast cancer exploded into my life. It triggered cycles of treatments and a cascade of tangled thoughts and events that opened complicated and unexpected pathways into conspiracy theories and their ever-present undercurrents of Antisemitism.
Experimenting and constructing with multiple elements fabricated from porcelain clay pushed to its extremes allows me to investigate the evolving, colourful, cyclical nature of life, illness and human psychology.
The discomfort of illness is intertwined with the complicated reactions of others. Many well-meaning people offered me quackery for comfort. Why did intelligent people fall prey to the at best false, and at worst dangerous, conspiracy theories on which those recommendations were based? And why are so many people drawn in by the cult of personality of the conspiracy theorists?
My work evolves as I construct and sometimes mutations occur as they do in life and societies. There is a tension between the joy brought by the immediacy of manipulating clay and the frustrations of a sometimes unpredictable strong yet fragile medium. It mirrors the complex, multilayered and sometimes tangled communities we live in.
Illness challenges body and mind unexpectedly. Layers of trains of thought, like neural networks, interconnect in novel ways. We cannot predict what will weave or hack its way into our lives. Is it possible that most of us, because we are human, given the right set of circumstances, could be pulled too far into the black hole of conspiracy theory? Or are you already there?"
